Mission Statement & Core Values

The American College Dance Association exists to support, affirm, and advocate for dance in higher education.

ACDA Core Values

ACDA serves its members and the larger dance community by advocating for dance education and providing platforms for exchange and mutual respect through sustainable practices in pursuit of equity. In fulfilling and advancing our mission, ACDA is guided by 5 Core Values that guide our work, interactions, and programming.

Service: ACDA serves dance and higher education by creating platforms that empower dance students, faculty, and professionals to be resources for one another by sharing knowledges, practices, artistries, and experiences.

Education: ACDA asserts the necessity of dance in higher education and supports creative agency through responsive, reflective and evolving pedagogies, embodied scholarship, and scholarly-creative research.

Inclusion: ACDA advances and maintains a community of mutual respect shaped by a multiplicity of voices, embodied practices and dance forms.

Respect: ACDA commits to maintaining and improving human, social, artistic and environmental sustainability by seeking practices that result in environmental stewardship and prioritize employee, member and partner safety, health and wellness.

Equity: ACDA prioritizes accessibility and rejects systems of supremacy that result in exclusion, oppression, or separation of groups of people based on race, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, class, spiritual affiliation, ability or any identity marker.
