Grad School: Navigating Your Next Steps

Thinking about graduate school but not sure where to begin? Whether you are interested in performance, choreography, dance education, arts administration, or another area of the field, this introductory workshop will help you explore your options. Learn about the different types of graduate degrees available, and what to consider when choosing a program. You will also hear directly from representatives from graduate programs across the country, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and discover programs that align with your goals. Whether you are actively applying or just beginning to explore, this session will help you take the next step with confidence.

  • As a participating program, you’ll have the opportunity to engage with prospective students through a Zoom breakout room during ACDA’s virtual workshop, Grad School 101: Navigating Your Next Steps, on November 13 from 1–2 p.m. ET (while ACDA cannot guarantee student attendance in individual breakout rooms).
  • You’ll also receive a list of registered students, including their email addresses and the degree programs they are interested in.
  • Your program will gain visibility across ACDA’s network of more than 4,000+ students and faculty through inclusion in our digital Graduate School Brochure, which will be hyperlinked on the ACDA website and shared across our social media platforms.
  • Participating programs will also be featured in two Graduate School eblasts reaching 4,935 contacts, as well as the November newsletter.
  • In addition, ACDA will promote all participating graduate programs through a dedicated social media post, with your program logo and social media handle included—giving you multiple touchpoints to introduce your program, build awareness, and connect with the next generation of dance scholars, artists, educators, and leaders.

Finance for Independent Artists

In this introductory-level session, we will touch on the basics of invoicing, tracking expenses and income, and taxes for freelancers. We will make a mock project budget in Excel and talk about keeping your financial house in order even when you’re doing a dozen different things. Walk out confident in the knowledge between a W2, a W9, and a 1099 and ready to manage your money as a fierce and savvy independent artist.
